The picture shows a Norwegian barque - Statsraad Lemkhul- of similar outline to the Avanti Savoia. Although built in Italy, the Savoia was registered in Newcastle, New South Wales and was bound for Rotterdam with a cargo of nitrates.
On the night of the 4th April 1915 she was in waters around Shetland in poor sea conditions and ultimately went ashore on the rocks at Burga Stack near Culswick Ness on the west side of Shetland.
All hands were lost in this tragedy including a local lad Christopher Fraser. He lived within a mile or two of where the wreck grounded - it was his first time away at sea and he was only eighteen.
