Shetlands bird life is a chapter on its own. Along the rugged coastline the bird life provides the sound track for the scene. Birds have their colonies all along the coast - you will find gulls, gannets, puffins, cormorants and more at the shore while inland, among the variety, the curlew and oyster catchers catch my eye.
Walkers must be careful when skirting the coastline as many nests can be found near headlands or in dips near the cliffs. Birds don’t take kindly to this invasion and some like the arctic skua will defend their space.
The smell and noise emphasise that many parts of the coast are a busy habitat and full of life.
