Veer North

I have recently joined a local group of artists working in Shetland.

Veer North is a group of professional visual artists formed to provide support for artists within Shetland. The group tries to develop opportunities and raise public awareness of artistic activity within the islands.

 The group supports and encourages collaborations with existing agencies and artists’ groups throughout Scotland and the UK as well as links with Scandinavia and northern Europe. Links have been established with artists and organisations in different parts of the UK as well as Faroe and Sweden.

The objectives of Veer North include:

• To motivate a participating artists’ group
• To raise awareness of what artists do and their contribution
• To collaborate with existing agencies in Shetland and beyond
• To facilitate the organisation of events promoting contemporary art
• To develop opportunities for artists in Shetland and beyond
